Rachel Stornant was a beloved friend, colleague, and former SEMFA Board Member, who left us far too soon. In her final year with us, Rachel taught a young student free of charge in order to assist her in upgrading to a new flute.

After Rachel's passing, the Rachel Stornant Junior Artist Competition (RSJAC) was established for students of Middle School age. In 2024, the RSJAC was reconceived as the Rachel Stornant Memorial Scholarship. 

We believe Rachel’s final wish would have been to help promote the careers of young, budding talent in the Southeast Michigan flute community.

Starting September 2024, the Rachel Stornant Memorial Scholarship will award one Middle-School aged student one $500.00 to help fund their musical education.
